My primary research interests focus on molecular systematics and biological control of nematodes with the goal of integrating basic and applied science to find efficient nematode management strategies.
I am also the Director of the Nematode Diagnostic and Assay Laboratory, which is the primary diagnostic clinic for the citizens of the State of Florida. The lab provides diagnostic service to support the protection of Florida agriculture. The lab provides detailed, accurate, and timely analysis of soil and plant samples. The lab currently performs assays for diagnostics, predictive and research purposes. This service is provided to growers, researchers, extension specialists, golf course superintendents, home gardeners, and anyone else who is involved in plant production that could be parasitized by plant-parasitic nematodes. The lab processes more than 5,000 diagnostic and research samples each year. The lab also provides additional services that include nematode speciation using molecular tools, root health assessments, and root staining. The Lab is certified by APHIS to receive samples from inside and outside the State of Florida.
